Revolutionary Playground at De Appel Art Center

For the 2011 edition of Museum Night, art collective The Living Room(s) curated a program inspired by current civil awakening tendencies. “Revolutionary Playground” invited several artists and performers to take action and “occupy” public areas of the building.

My starting point was a custom type design that could be accurately reproduced by hand and that was freely inspired by an archive image of the Molukkers’ protests in Amsterdam in 1976. It further developed in a hand-painted compilation of global revolutionary slogans on a 10-meter-long canvas that covered the façade of de Appel Art Center during the evening of Amsterdam’s Museum Night 2011.
